LOS MONTESINOS to BADLANDS

cycle tour 2024

Blog - Day 7 (Tue 28 May)

Viches-Valdepenas De Jaen(Spain)

9am rollout, my legs not yet arrived from Sunday nights hotel, hoping to get them forwarded to the hotel in Granada before we hit the desert.

First stop after 20 miles in Torreblascopedro (easy for you to say) for a coffee and cake etc. Back street cafe found with the help of a Spanish cyclist which seemed to be doubling as an OAP health centre. Whilst there we learned that our 5th member Sykes, due to join us in Granada, couldn’t now make the trip (a recurring bout of cancellitus ?)

More rolling roads followed all lined with seemingly endless olive groves, the scenery improving every day now that we are in Andalusia

Lunch stop after 45 miles, 3 miles into the first of two 7 mile climbs in Jaen and then on upwards to 4000ft including a short descent in the middle in temperatures in the high 30s.

A short fast descent down to 3000ft brought us to Valdepena de Jaen for our evening stop.

Cracking views until Gordon’s belly, although there is a resemblance to Eric’s face. There is a place in Aberdeen also called Torybastardpedro. Anyway, more words and less pedal revolutions tomorrow please.
