Dreux-Orleans()
Finished a bit early today which was nice for a wee change. So time for a wee sumarry of trip so far:
Jim S, our high speed Tesla, crashed and had a wee roll about the ground but was soon sorted in the friendly Dumfries bike shop.
Big G, claims to suffering from malnutrution as he isn't quite getting his full calorie intake. It's possibly withdrawls from a rapidly reduced chocolate intake.
Eric is riding around in a semi-rage looking to battle with anyone who he can't catch up to.
Jim R claims to know something about everywhere we've been, as evidence by his small talk, but still manages to get us lost and going off road.
We're going through nappy cream (we call it chamois cream) at a rapid rate.
Now for the real report -
1 week in
Airbnb last night, set off early to find a spot of breakfast. Followed the white van man to their version of Greggs. Not much choice but the wasps are alway happy to hang about us.
Got on the road and cycled 20 miles on a version of the old A77 next to the motorway.
Arrived in Chartres for more pastries , coffee and photos of cathedrals. Jim R decided that today he would let Gordon eat. (Jim R got an earful from Isobel last night for starving her man). More wasps.
So then off to Orleans passing through deserted French villages.
Lunch was now the order of the day. Using a charades translation it turned out to be a fish called Colin or bugs bunny - a quick exit followed.
Next town, Patay only place open, carry out pizza. No wasps!!
Final run into Orleans in pouring rain, slippery roads aka squeaky bum time, but made it, safe and sound.
Stopped at a cafe next to the cathedral. Wasps are back.
This time last week we were in Carlisle and a rather dodgy hostel ,tonight we’re in a French house in Orleans. Jim R has cooked the food on the BBQ and we’re eating outside, what a difference a week makes.
Mrs Stead - Gordon was a good boy and earned a chocolate soldier in the bakery in Chartres.
