AYRSHIRE to LOS MONTESINOS

cycle tour 2022

Blog - Euro Day 1 (Thu 21 July)

Rotterdam-Bruges(Netherlands -  Belgium)

A few pints of Guinness and bottle of red wine for the boys last night .

Left the Pride of Rotterdam ferry at 0830, after a calm sailing, to be met with rain and 15 degrees. Ah well on with the rain jackets just like being at home.Straight on to cycle paths and more pan flat roads. Cafe stop in Oodorp after 20 miles

Hen broon again at odds with a Dutch postman pat on a electric trike - gave the finger for not letting him past (Jim and Gordon chased after but his teslar powered envelope delivery cart was no match). Thankfully Hen Broon's (aka “big dog”) legs were in poor condition and couldn’t catch and punch the wee fecker in the face .

Horrendous sidewinds and rain  - it's no wonder all these Dutch cyclists are good at riding in sidewinds. Onward and lunch at ferry terminal at 56 miles

Another coffee stop at Sluis then more flat canal paths all the way to Brugge.

About 80 miles 99% on cycle paths.

Turns out the hostel is a bier cafe!!!

Big barman is fae Girvan, greeting us with a guid Scottish welcome ‘alright ya cants ‘

Enjoying these reports, keep em coming. In one day classics territory today, quick detour to the Roubaix velodrome?

there's a theme developing here, chaps: cathedrals & churches, disputes with local 'riders' and plenty of 'good food' and drink! oh, and at least you have good scottish weather. cheers.
